Irwin Cotler: Ahmadinejad's Incitement to Genocide

Irwin Cotler speaks against genocide and Iranian incitement to genocide at the State-Sanctioned Incitement to Genocide: What Can Be Done? Conference held on September 23, 2008 in Washington, D.C. Prof. Cotler is a former Justice Minister of Canada.
  • He received his undergraduate and law degrees at McGill University in Montreal, where he later became a professor of law.
  • He served as director of McGill's Human Rights from 1973 until his election into the Canadian Parliament in 1999. As a Member of Parliament, Cotler was a strong advocate for human rights.
  • He not only co-chaired the Parliamentary Human Rights Group, but also founded Parliamentarians for Global Action and the Save Darfur Parliamentary Coalition.
  • As Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, he made international justice a priority, initiating the first indictment under the Canadian War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Act for incitement to genocide in Rwanda.
  • He is also presently working with international lawyers to indict Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for incitement to genocide, as well.
