The Hidden Jews of Portugal

In this video we will try to find out what happened to the jews of Portugal who were forced to convert to Christianity. This long lasting injustice that started in the 15th century and has still not made right is a deep stain on the history of religion for mankind. In Portugal there are still Jewish people who live a double life, as Christians in the open and as Jews in secret. Many of these people want to reclaim their identity as Jews but they don't want to be forced to convert to Judaism because they are Jews by blood and by choice of life-style, all-being in secret. www.netivyah.org

Jewish History- Marranos & the Inquisition

Brother Marrano
Martha Schlamme, who fled from Nazi Germany to England, sings a moving Yiddish song about the Sephardim, the Spanish Jews forced to convert to Christianity by the Inquisition in 1492. Many continued to practice Judaism in secret. They were called Marranos, a derogatory word for pig, used to emphasize the expectation that they would now eat pork. The Seder is the feast of Passover and the Haggadah is the telling, at Passover, of the Jewish liberation from slavery in Egypt. Matzohs are the white unleavened flatbreads served at Passover.

A Muslim's First Visit to Jerusalem

Walk in Jerusalem Affirms Beliefs - by Salim Mansur, QMI Agency

The warmth with which I was greeted and waved through passport control immediately made me feel at home in the country where I had come on a personal journey.

Beholding Jerusalem for the first time nestled in the folds of the Judean Mountains was a stunning experience.

I felt entirely disarmed of everything I had read, thought and anticipated about the city by the sheer majesty of its grandeur before me.

The ease with which I moved — alone and without restrictions — from the inner sanctum of the Muslim sanctuary to Judaism’s holiest site, embracing both, is a testimony to the openness of Israel as a Jewish state and democracy.

Palestinian, Arab and Muslim narratives of Jerusalem’s recent history, however, is a denial of what my experience affirms, and the larger denial of Jewish rights that is the source of conflict here... Read more
